WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD THAT IS WAX!
Encaustic is an ancient painting medium which predates oil painting. It was used by both the Greeks and Egyptians originally as a sealant in ship building and then more decoratively in the portraiture on sarcophagi.
More recently it has been employed by contemporary artists such as Jasper Johns and is currently enjoying a revival in the art world. The beauty of wax is that it lends itself to a broad range of techniques and finishes, notably with the use of collage and embedding techniques.
