Encaustic in 3D
During the weekend of 3/4 March we had a fantastic weekend at Corbans Estate in Auckland playing around with wire, plaster bandage, foam, plaster, encaustic wax medium and any number of found and repurposed objects.
Inspired by the book ‘Plaster Studio‘ – by Stephanie Lee & Judy Wise, 10 avid students extended themselves to explore the possibilities of moving into 3D with their encaustic process.
We explored basic structural techniques using wire armature, card, foam and balloon grounds covering everything with heavenly plaster gauze on Day 1.
Day 2 saw us launching into the encaustic process, joining pieces and expanding our repertoire of image transfer, drawing and mark-making on the encaustic surface and generally having a whale of a time !
With the Holi Festival going on outside it was difficult not to be distracted by the amazing Indian flavours and smells that wafted in.
Suffice it to say that a good time was had by all !
