REMEMBER TO REMEMBER
27 July – 6 September 2015 | Carterton Event Centre
‘Remember to Remember’ commemorating soldiers who fought or died in WW1.
My interest in WW1 was sparked by living here in Featherston, close to the site of New Zealand’s largest WW1 training camp.
The exhibition incorporates the 2014 community knitting project ‘A Call to Arms’ – where local participants knitted ‘comforts for soldiers’ from authentic 1900 knitting patterns in memory of and dedicated to someone in their family who served in the war.
Encaustic paintings, ceramics, and rocks from the Tauherinikau river also feature.
Of particular interest to Carterton residents is the recognition of the implementation of the iconic lemonsqueezer hat by General (Sir) Herbert Ernest Hart who returned from the war to a heroes’ welcome right here in Carterton.
